‘Misty water colour memories of the way we were.’
The way we were, a classic film and song from 1973 captures the sense of nostalgia that sends our mind and our senses tumbling backwards to what seems a simpler place and time.
Neuroscientists tell us that the brain can’t tell the difference between something vividly imagined and reality.
The good news is that, in the main, those misty memories vividly espouse positivity and happiness……
‘Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we?
The way we were is a film told partly in flashback where past relationships are portrayed as romantic, passionate and optimistic.
When we see films, pictures, styles and iconography from the past we have our own flashbacks creating historical attachments where preserved memories are too precious to be discarded.
For a growing number of likeminded consumers vintage products are tinged with memories too precious to be discarded.
So, when we peer through our window on the past, it’s comforting to know we can do it all again via our lounge, kitchen, bathroom and our wardrobe. In these places through vintage products we can embrace ‘the way were’ in the past the present and the future.
Long live romance, passion and optimism.
